Leading a jam at the Barberville Folk Fest

After a full career in elementary education, Laurie Alsobrook has found a perfect blending of her two passions, teaching learners and playing the dulcimer.

Laurie has participated in a variety of festivals, online and in-person.  Festival credits include QDF, Black Mountain, Nonsuch, Dulcimer U, NGFDA, Dutchland, and Dulcimer Daze.  She also served as co-host/organizer of the Stephen Foster Dulcimer Retreats, digital and in-person events.

Laurie has been a regular contributor to the Send in the Music Virtual Jam, offering tab to the participants and serving as a song leader. She also hosts a weekly more informal zoom jam.

What’s New??NO FRILLS 2.0 includes additional tunes played in jam sessions, with eighth notes sprinkled throughout the tab to add interest.  Plus, the addition of two-finger chords adds to the harmony and the fun!

NO FRILLS, the Original – Tab is written in a very simple format and can be used by all levels as a springboard for working on strum rhythms as well as experimenting with adding chords on your own.

NO FRILLS, Gospel Edition – These Gospel tunes are often played in jam sessions! Although the tab included in this collection is written in a very simple format, it can be used by all levels as a springboard for working on strum rhythms as well as experimenting with adding chords on your own.

What folks are saying about the NO FRILLS collections:

This package is phenomenal. I appreciate all the work you put into compiling it. I know it’s going to help me with my strumming.” – Dee in Florida

“The response to the book was good and everyone is looking forward to making music together again. [The club] especially liked the large print, with many comments of ‘Oh good, I won’t need my reading glasses for these tunes’, myself included!” – Larry in Canada
